The Secret of Being You offers tools and support for your personal self-awareness experiment through Human Design.
As teachers and coaches, we provide tools to deepen your awareness as you experiment with being you. You are invited to join us in our ongoing exploration of the unique, individual experience of being alive.
Our Story — A Design of Opposites
We have been partners in love and life for over 40 years
We met Ra Uru Hu and Human Design in 1999 and have been actively experimenting with it in our daily lives for the past 27 years.
We received our individual readings from Ra, along with our partnership reading, on the same day. Since then, we have experienced the profound personal transformation Human Design offers, which has radically improved the quality of our individual lives and our relationship.
By design and background, we are polar opposites. Dharmen is a black man from Harlem; Leela is a white woman from the Valley. We are East Coast and West Coast, male and female.
Energetically, Dharmen is a wide-open 1/3 Reflector, while Leela is a triple-split emotional 4/6 Generator. We are open and very defined, non-emotional and highly emotional, logical and abstract, a non-energy being and a 3-motor energy being.
These opposing qualities—and the deep conditioning that accompanies them—often led to cultural, emotional, and value-based conflicts between us early on. Over the decades, we have endured parenthood in a multiethnic blended family, failed businesses, bankruptcy, illness, separation, and the profound grief of losing our youngest child. Yet we have also experienced the intense joy of building a life dedicated to growth, stewardship, and personal accountability.
Practicing Human Design and discovering who we are beyond our conditioning strengthened the natural harmonic resonance between our 1/3 and 4/6 profiles. Harmony in a partnership is a rare gift, and neither of us had experienced it before this experiment. The quality of life we have found together compels us to share this knowledge with you.

Our Human Design Journey
July 1999: Received our Individual and Partnership readings directly from Ra Uru Hu.
Fall 2006: Founded The Secret of Being You.
April 2007: Commissioned by Ra to write a series of books on Human Design. We have published three eBooks to date, with more planned on topics he explicitly requested.
2007–2010: Hosted the Daily Neutrino Forecast on Jovian Archive Radio, Monday through Friday, at Ra’s request.
April 2008: Invited by Ra to join the faculty at the International Human Design School (IHDS). Over the past 18 years, we have taught everything from general interest classes to advanced analyst certification, beginning with our inaugural courses: Getting with The Program – Transits and Relating by Design.
April 2009: Presented on the Godheads in Ra's Ibiza video studio for Jovian Archive.
Fall 2011: Launched the Radical Deconditioning and Radical Transformation courses.
January 2012: Began presenting the annual Rave New Year Forecast for Jovian Archive, stepping in to continue Ra’s foundational work.
Summer 2013: Began teaching live classes in the Human Design Sedona Live Center. Co-presented at the live Sedona Rave Event with Mary Ann Winiger, Alok Anand Diaz del Rio, Randy Richmond, and other international Human Design teachers.
Fall 2013: The IHDS appointed us as Advanced Analyst Teachers for Child Development and Family Practice Certification.
Fall 2020: Joined the Human Design School of Asia as guest teachers, offering live-translated courses for parents and analysts.
Summer 2022: Leela completed writing the Advanced portion for Jovian Archive's My BodyGraph software.
Fall 2024: Interviewed for the 4% Experiment film at Es Vedra and taught classes at Ibiza Event 2024.
Summer 2025: They guest presented on Ra TV on ‘Relating with Sacral Power.’
Fall 2025: Launched the Countdown to 2027 lecture series to prepare our students for the impending global cycle shift.
Winter 2026: Leela was a guest presenter for RA TV on ‘Parenting by Design’.
Study With Us
Direct Students of Ra Uru Hu Dharmen and Leela were direct students of Ra from 1999 until his passing, bringing a unique depth of source-material wisdom to their courses and coaching sessions.
A Complementary Approach to Teaching. As teachers, we naturally complement each other—and we are the first to admit that we often disagree. Because we bring distinct viewpoints and expressions shaped by decades of lived experience, our class discussions offer a dynamic range of insights. This supportive feedback is designed to help you recognize and trust your own unique viewpoint.
Online Courses: Our online courses emphasize the lived experience of the mechanics. We provide practical, weekly exercises that can open up surprising new paths on your journey of self-awareness. Taught in an interactive online classroom that connects explorers worldwide, each session includes video and audio recordings, plus detailed PDF course materials.
